Log Bending & Raingutter Regatta: March 1, 2009
On Sunday, March 1st, the Ship hosted the Arrowhead Squadron's Log Bending at the Inland Fish & Game Conservation Club.
The actual Log Bending (newsletter workparty) went quickly, then there was a brief "social hour" while we tried to find the BBQs, propane tanks, and get them working.
Meanwhile, we set up for the Raingutter Regatta.
The boats are hot-wind (lung)-powered, and the best time out of three runs will win.
Three 6-inch boats were on the starting line of the 8-foot course, and results were as follows:
| Race 1 | Race 2 | Race 3 | Place | |||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kahsule, Mr. Lee Tracy, Skipper | 00:00:14 | 00:00:15 | 00:00:14 | First | ||
| Sea Dogs, Aleq, Skipper | 00:00:25 | 00:00:16 | 00:00:16 | Second | ||
| Au Natural, Mr. Ray Edwards, Skipper | 00:00:48 | 00:00:35 | 00:00:34 | Third | ||
Mr. Edward's Au Natural, being unpainted, had an obvious disadvantage in speed;
however, her efforts were rewarded by a sudden gust of natural wind in the third race, giving her Skipper's lungs a much-appreciated rest.
Aleq's Sea Dogs was widely admired for her fantastic paint job, and won "Best in Show," hands-down.
